Threshold Hadronic Event Shapes with Eective Field Theory

چکیده
Hadronic event shapes, that is, event shapes at hadron colliders, could provide a great way to test both standard and non-standard theoretical models. However, they are significantly more complicated than event shapes at e+e− colliders, involving multiple hard directions, multiple channels and multiple color structures. In this paper, hadronic event shapes are examined with Soft-Collinear Effective Theory (SCET) by expanding around the dijet limit. A simple event shape, threshold thrust, is defined. This observable is global and has no free parameters, making it ideal for clarifying how resummation of hadronic event shapes can be done in SCET. Threshold thrust is calculated at next-toleading fixed order (NLO) in SCET and resummed to next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy (NNLL). The scale-dependent parts of the soft function are shown to agree with what is expected from general observations, and the factorization formula is explicitly shown to be renormalization group invariant to 1-loop. Although threshold thrust is not itself expected to be phenomenologically interesting, it can be modified into a related observable which allows the jet pT distribution to be calculated and resummed to NNLL+NLO accuracy. As in other processes, one expects resummation to be important even for moderate jet momenta due to dynamical threshold enhancement. A general discussion of threshold enhancement and non-global logs in hadronic event shapes is also included.

Calculation of Power Corrections to Hadronic Event Shapes of Tagged b Events
We compute power corrections to mean values of hadronic event shapes — the thrust and the C parameter — of tagged b quark events in electron positron annihilation, using the dispersive approach. We find that the leading power corrections are of the same type of 1/Q corrections as for event shapes in the massless case, with the same non-perturbative coefficient times a perturbatively calculable ...

Modern-day ‘testing’ of (perturbative) QCD is as much about pushing the boundaries of its applicability as about the verification that QCD is the correct theory of hadronic physics. This talk gives a brief discussion of a small selection of topics: factorisation and jets in diffraction, power corrections and event shapes, the apparent excess of b-production in a variety of experiments, and the ...
متن کاملO ct 2 00 5 Hadronic η and η ′ decays
The hadronic decays η, η ′ → 3π and η ′ → ηππ are investigated within the framework of U(3) chiral effective field theory in combination with a relativistic coupled-channels approach. Final state interactions are included by deriving sand p-wave interaction kernels for meson-meson scattering from the chiral effective Lagrangian and iterating them in a Bethe-Salpeter equation. Very good overall ...
متن کاملEffect of Cell Size and Shape on Electric Field Threshold and Critical Transmembrane Voltage for Electroporation
Introduction: Electroporation is a technique for increasing the permeability of the cell membrane to otherwise non-permeate molecules due to an external electric field. This permeability enhancement is detectable if the induced transmembrane voltage becomes greater than a critical value which depends on the pulse strength threshold. In this study, the variabil...
متن کاملPower Suppressed Corrections to Hadronic Event Shapes
For high energy processes (M ≫ ΛQCD) there are infrared safe hadronic shape variables that have a calculable perturbative expansion in αs(M ). However, nonperturbative power suppressed corrections to these variables are not well understood. We use the behavior of large orders of the perturbation expansion to gain insight into the nonperturbative corrections. Our results suggest that certain sha...
